I haven’t blogged much (even though my twitter account has been super active…) so I thought I’d give you a bit of an update on what I’ve been up to!
Other than the Open Mic Mondays I’ve been hosting, plus the regular day-job running the bar, I’ve been doing some writing and shooting on a sitcom series codenamed “Players”. It’s a great little project that’s been turning into something very cool. It’s neat to watch something evolve from the planning stages. To see it go from “wouldn’t it be neat” to “wow, that’s actually quite funny!”
The basic story sees Malcom, the main character, trying to get his best buddy Dexter to help him start a theatre troupe. It’s a (slightly) darker comedy than let’s say, Corner Gas or Little Mosque On The Prairie, but is very honest about it’s comedy. Nothing forced. Situational and sarcastic humour abound. You’re going to want to check it out.
So I get to star in this production… It’s a ton of fun. Originally created by Adam Ridler and myself, we are both very keen to see this launch.
Totally filmed here in Halifax & Dartmouth, it’s being produced by Adam Ridler and our jointly owned film company, A2Film Canada. Check out the website for more cool stuff that A2Film is doing.
As for this project, I’m just so happy that I get to work with Pat King again. I worked with Pat as an actor in “Zombie Detective” that he directed. It was a great process and kind of an inspiration to me as to how far I could take this film business.
We’ve decided to film this entire thing on an iPhone for several reasons. I’m not going to explain those reasons right now, but I will at another time. (By the way, all the pictures in this post are actually stills from the video itself.)
I hope you get a chance to see the product soon! Oh, and if you’re an actor/makeup artist/camera person/grip or want to help out any other way, shoot an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Until next time,
